Film actress and former MP of the Socialist Party (SP), Jayaprada... Allegedly, she is managing a cinema theater in Annadoddi with the help of Rambabu and Ram Kumar, who are said to have collected Employee State Insurance (ESI) funds from employees working at the theater without actually depositing it with the Employees' State Insurance Corporation.
A job holder filed a complaint against her in the Labor Government Insurance Corporation for misappropriation of the collected ESI funds. Following this, a petition was filed against her in Egmore Magistrate Court in Chennai by the Employees' State Insurance Corporation.
On this matter, the court, after considering the case on Friday, sentenced both Jayaprada and the theater managers to 6 months of jail time along with a fine of ₹5 each. In the past as well, Jayaprada Theater Complex was asked to pay ₹20 lakhs in taxes, and the City Civil Court officials seized chairs, projectors, and other assets from the theater as per the orders of the court.
In the 1980s, actress Jayaprada acted with leading actors in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, and Malayalam languages. For about two decades, she shone as a star heroine. In Hindi, she was seen opposite top heroes like Jeetendra and Rishi Kapoor. Later, she acted alongside Telugu legends like NT Rama Rao, ANR, and Krishna.
Afterward, with political aspirations, she joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1994. However, due to internal differences within the party, she switched to the Samajwadi Party (SP) with good wishes from TDP. She won as an MP from the Rampur constituency in Uttar Pradesh and served from 2004 to 2014. Then, in 2019, she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

ఈ కేసును శుక్రవారం విచారించిన న్యాయస్థానం జయప్రదతో పాటు థియేటర్ నిర్వాహకులకు 6 నెలల జైలు శిక్షతో పాటు ఒక్కొక్కరికి ₹5 చొప్పున జరిమానా విధించింది. గతంలో కూడా జయప్రద థియేటర్ కాంప్లెక్స్‌కు ₹20 లక్షలు పన్ను చెల్లించాలని కోరగా, కోర్టు ఆదేశాల మేరకు సిటీ సివిల్ కోర్టు అధికారులు థియేటర్‌లోని కుర్చీలు, ప్రొజెక్టర్లు, ఇతర ఆస్తులను సీజ్ చేశారు.
