Punjab Achieves Record T20 Total, the Highest in Indian Cricket History

In Ranchi, Punjab scripted a historic achievement by achieving the highest-ever T20 total by an Indian cricket team, scoring 275/6 against Andhra Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023 on Tuesday.

Abhishek displayed an outstanding performance, notching up an impressive 112 runs in just 51 balls. This helped Punjab set an imposing total of 275 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs, surpassing the previous record of 263 set by IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Pune Warriors India in 2013.

This feat represents the highest total in Indian T20 cricket, encompassing both Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) and IPL, and stands as the fourth highest overall in T20 cricket history. Punjab exceeded Mumbai's record, previously held for smashing 258 runs against Sikkim during the 2019 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy edition.

Punjab's aggressive batting display also shattered the prior record of most sixes by a team in a T20 match, previously held by RCB with 21 sixes. With Abhishek and Anmolpreet contributing 9 sixes each, Naman Dhir and Prabhsimran adding 2 and 1 six respectively, Punjab collectively hit an impressive total of 22 sixes in the match.

In response, Andhra Pradesh could only manage 170/7 in their 20 overs, falling short by 15 runs and giving Punjab the victory, securing their historic total."
