The Telangana High Court, expressing grave concern over increasing dog bite incidents, instructed authorities in Hyderabad to shift their focus from mere statistics on sterilization efforts to achieving tangible outcomes. Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J Anil Kumar, hearing a PIL filed by ME Vikramaditya from Vanasthalipuram, directed the GHMC to establish a committee of experts within a week. This committee's mandate is to devise effective and humane strategies addressing the problem of dog bites, reviewing past incidents and proposing preventive measures. The court sternly warned against any negligence or indifference from authorities regarding the issue.
The PIL, which also encompassed two suo motu PILs based on news reports of fatalities, highlighted concerns about the inadequate feeding of stray dogs contributing to their aggressive behavior towards humans.
