Demolition of Actor Nagarjunas Controversial N Convention Centre in Hyderabad Commences

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Disaster Relief and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has begun demolishing the high-profile N-Convention Centre near Hitech City in Madhapur. This centre, owned by Tollywood actor Akkineni Nagarjuna, has been mired in controversy for several years.
The controversy centers around allegations that the convention centre was constructed by encroaching on approximately 3.30 to 3.40 acres of Thammidi Kunta lake's Full Tank Level (FTL). The centre is located within the FTL/Buffer zone of the lake, leading to significant criticism and calls for action.
Complainants, including Bhaskar Reddy, petitioned HYDRAA to address the issue and restore the lake. The demolition process, which began early Saturday morning, involves a heavy police presence, road closures, and restricted media access.
The N-Convention Centre, known for its state-of-the-art infrastructure and technology, hosts high-profile events, including those for political leaders and film stars. It features three function halls and is popular for weddings, engagements, and other significant events.
The lake, spanning 29 acres, was surveyed by joint teams from Revenue, Irrigation, and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). Their findings revealed that out of the 6.69 acres on which the convention centre was built, approximately 3.30 acres were encroached upon. This includes about two acres in the Buffer Zone and 1.3 acres within the FTL of the lake.
