HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has aggressively tackled encroachments on lakes and government lands since its inception. In just 58 days, HYDRAA has demolished 166 structures and reclaimed 43.94 acres from lakes, parks, and nalas.
On Sunday, HYDRAA submitted a report to the government detailing the encroachments removed and the land recovered. The report indicates that the demolished structures included properties owned by senior Congress leader and former Union Minister MM Pallam Raju’s brother, as well as MLAs and MLCs from AIMIM and BRS.
The agency's first demolition occurred on June 26 in Film Nagar Cooperative Society, recovering 0.16 acres. The report revealed that businessman Gokul Narne had encroached on part of the Lotus Pond park and built a compound wall.
On August 18, HYDRAA dismantled 24 encroachments at Gandipet Lake (Osman Sagar) in Khanapur and Chilkur villages, recovering 15.25 acres. In Khanapur, the agency demolished two buildings, a compound wall, and 11 temporary sheds, totaling 8.75 acres. In Chilkur, six buildings and three compound walls on 6.5 acres were removed.
Among the demolished structures was ORO Sports Village, owned by Pallam Raju’s brother, Pallam Anand. Other demolished properties included those owned by former TDP member GV Bhasker Rao of Kaveri Seeds, BJP leader Sunil Reddy, and Anupama, wife of Pro Kabaddi team owner Srinivas Rao. Sunil Reddy had unsuccessfully contested the 2023 Assembly elections from Manthani on a BJP ticket.
On August 24, HYDRAA also bulldozed N-Convention, owned by Tollywood actor Akkineni Nagarjuna, at Tummidikunta Lake in Madhapur, recovering 4.9 acres and dismantling eight sheds.
In its report, HYDRAA mentioned that on August 10, it removed 45 encroachments from Bum-Rukn-ud-Dowla Lake near Shivrampally, reclaiming 12 acres. This included demolishing 40 compound walls, two Ground+5 floor buildings, one G+2 floor building, and one ground floor building linked to MIM MLA Mohamad Mubeen and MIM MLC Mirza Rahmat Beig.
Similarly, on August 6, the agency recovered 3.5 acres in Survey No 329 of Chintal Cheruvu in Gajularamaram by demolishing 54 structures built by local BRS leader Ratnakaram Sai Raju.
On August 9, 16 houses in a park at Nandagiri Hills, Road No 69, Jubilee Hills, were removed. The report alleged that MLA Danam Nagender had supported the encroachers in demolishing the park's compound wall.

Notices Issued:
The Manikonda Municipal Council has issued notices regarding unauthorized construction of 225 row houses to the president of the Telugu Cine Workers Cooperative Society, Chitrapuri Colony. The notice warns that failure to comply will result in action by HYDRAA.
