HYDRAA to Take a Tougher Stance on Eviction Cases in Telangana

HYDERABAD: The state government plans to transfer the responsibility for issuing all types of eviction notices to the Hyderabad District Revenue Administration Authority (HYDRAA). This includes notices related to constructions on lakes, parks, canals, and government lands. This shift aims to streamline and consolidate the eviction process, which is currently managed by various entities including the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the Land Encroachment Act, the Land Grabbing Act, the Walta Act, and the Irrigation Department. Additionally, the conservation of Gandipet and Himayatsagar lakes will also be moved from the Water Board to HYDRAA.
On Thursday, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari convened a high-level meeting to develop a comprehensive action plan in response to recent Telangana High Court orders regarding the removal of encroachments on lakes and water bodies and the preservation of government property. The meeting emphasized enhancing HYDRAA’s authority and resources for protecting government sites, lakes, and properties.
Santhi Kumari highlighted that the current system, with separate notices issued by various departments such as Irrigation, GHMC, Municipal Administration, Panchayat Raj, and Walta, has led to confusion. To resolve this, she instructed the Principal Secretary of the Municipal Department to finalize procedures for HYDRAA to issue all eviction notices within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits. Additional officers and staff will be assigned to HYDRAA, and the authority will also address issues related to Full Tank Level (FTL), nala encroachment, government vacant lots, and park conservation.
