The central government announced the Padma Awards on Republic Day, recognizing exceptional contributions across various fields. However, Congress leader and actress Vijayashanti voiced her disappointment, stating that Telangana deserved at least four Padma Awards.
In a tweet, Vijayashanti emphasized the need for the BJP-led central government to consider Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s opinion on the matter. She said, “Telangana should have received at least four Padma Awards this year. With two Union Ministers and eight BJP MPs from Telangana, the party should reflect on this. I urge the BJP to seriously review the Chief Minister’s perspective.”
This year, seven Telugu individuals were honored with Padma Awards, but only two were from Telangana. Dr. Duvvuru Nageshwar Reddy received the Padma Vibhushan for his contributions to medicine, and Manda Krishna Madiga was awarded the Padma Shri for his work in public affairs.
In contrast, Andhra Pradesh saw broader recognition, with actor Nandamuri Balakrishna receiving the Padma Bhushan, while four others were honored with the Padma Shri. Vijayashanti’s comments have reignited discussions about regional representation in the prestigious awards.
