MIM candidate Mirza Riyaz Ul Hassan Effendi has emerged victorious in the Hyderabad Local Authorities’ constituency MLC elections. He secured 63 votes, defeating BJP candidate Gautam Rao, who received 25 votes, marking a clear margin of 38 votes.
With this win, the Hyderabad MLC seat has officially gone to the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
This election was particularly significant as it marked the first contest for the Hyderabad local bodies MLC seat in 22 years. The poll, held on April 23, attracted attention due to the BJP unexpectedly fielding a candidate.
A total of 112 voters participated in this election. AIMIM held the majority with 49 direct votes, and also secured support from other parties and independent members, which helped consolidate their win. BJP came in as the next major contender but fell short despite the buzz around their participation.
