Saleshwaram Jatra – People Rush At During The Festival

Stampede at Saleshwaram Jatra in Telangana Leaves Several Devotees Injured

The Saleshwaram Jatra, also known as the Telangana Amarnath Yatra, became the site of a stampede, leaving several devotees injured. This incident took place at the famous Saleshwaram Lingamayi temple, located in the Nallamalla Forest Reserve of Nagar Kurnool district. The final day of the festival, along with the weekend rush, led to an overwhelming crowd of devotees.

Due to the large number of people, a minor stampede occurred in the narrow paths leading down the valley to the slippers removal area. Devotees started pushing and shoving, resulting in a chaotic situation. In the confusion, some devotees were injured. A 10-year-old child fell unconscious due to breathing problems, while another devotee suffered a head injury after a rock fell on him from above.

Local authorities and organizers have responded quickly to ensure the safety of other pilgrims. Despite the incident, the jatra continued, but calls for better crowd control and safety measures are growing. Devotees and officials are urging improvements to avoid such unfortunate events in the future. With large crowds expected every year, the festival needs more careful management to ensure the safety and comfort of the participants.
