Rs 2,000 Notes Discovered in Vaikunthapuram Venkateswara Swamy Temple Hundi

In a surprising turn of events, discontinued Rs 2,000 currency notes were found in the offering box (hundi) at the Vaikunthapuram Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple, located near Tenali in Guntur district. This discovery has sparked widespread discussion, as the circulation of Rs 2,000 notes was officially stopped in 2023.

On Thursday, temple authorities counted the hundi offerings in the presence of temple officials, trust board members, and devotees. During the counting process, a total of 122 Rs 2,000 notes, which are no longer in circulation, were found, amounting to Rs 2.44 lakh. The discovery surprised the temple staff and raised questions about the anonymous donor who placed the invalid currency in the hundi.

The incident has led to curiosity and speculation. It's unclear whether the donor believed offering the defunct notes would bring blessings or simply used the temple as a way to discard unusable currency.
