Heavy Rains Batter Andhra Pradesh as Low Pressure over Bay of Bengal Strengthens 
AMARAVATI: Several parts of Andhra Pradesh were hit by heavy rains due to a well-marked low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which moved from the southeastern sea towards the west-northwest. As of Tuesday morning, the system remained over the area and is expected to intensify into a depression.  
According to the Meteorological Department, the system is likely to continue moving west-northwest towards the coasts of northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh within the next two days. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are expected to experience intense monsoon activity on Tuesday, accompanied by widespread rainfall. The same pattern is forecast for the Rayalaseema region.  
In the coastal Andhra region, Kavali in Nellore district recorded the highest rainfall at 15 cm, followed by Addanki (Bapatla) with 14 cm, Kandukur (Nellore) with 12 cm, Yanam with 9 cm, and Atmakur (Nellore) with 8 cm. In Rayalaseema, Kodur in YSR Kadapa district received 10 cm of rainfall, while Sullurpeta and Gudur in Tirupati district recorded 7 cm and 6 cm, respectively.  
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in districts including West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, and NTR. A similar forecast has been issued for Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, Nellore, Nandyala, Annamayya, Chittoor, Tirupati, and Kurnool districts.  
Squally winds with speeds reaching up to 55 km/h are also anticipated along the coast. APSDMA Managing Director R. Kurmanadh urged residents to remain cautious and advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea until conditions improve.
