Sacrifice for Pawan Kalyan in 2019 Elections

During the 2019 Andhra Pradesh elections, Varma stepped aside to allow Pawan Kalyan to contest from Pithapuram. This move was seen as a great sacrifice, and many believed that he would be compensated with an MLC seat. However, despite strong backing, his name did not appear in the final list.

Following the MLC ticket announcement, Varma held a crucial meeting with TDP workers in Pithapuram. He reassured them that he remains committed to the party and will abide by its decisions. He stated, "I have been with TDP for 23 years, working closely with Chandrababu Naidu. I will continue to follow the party’s directions."
