Railway Initiative to Support Children Residing Near Rail Tracks

In a transformative move, the North Central Railway (NCR) is set to improve the lives of impoverished individuals residing around railway tracks. The initiative primarily focuses on educating children living in makeshift huts alongside the tracks. Under the Bharat Rail Vidya Fellowship scheme, the NCR, in collaboration with Bharat Scouts and Guides and Dreams Weavers Association (RDWA), has signed a memorandum of understanding.

Many cities witness thousands living nomadically in huts around railway tracks, with children in these areas lacking access to education. The NCR has taken the initiative to bring about positive changes in the lives of these children. The Prayagraj Division of NCR, in Uttar Pradesh, has selected five major cities, including Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Kanpur, Tundla (Agra), and Aligarh, for the first phase.

A joint team of Bharat Scouts and Guides and Dreams Weavers Association, led by railway personnel from the Prayagraj Division, will compile a list of individuals living near the railway tracks. The plan involves admitting children to schools based on their age, holding classes for younger children near their homes, collecting details of family income, providing employment opportunities and information, offering medical assistance to sick family members, motivating cleanliness practices, and providing essential daily items.
