VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has criticized the previous five-year term under former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, calling it darker than the Emergency era. Naidu accused the former administration of undermining law and order and using the police to settle political scores. He announced plans to create a special wing to monitor hostile social media activity.
In a detailed presentation on law and order and drug-related issues during the 2019-2024 period, Naidu criticized the previous YSRC government for allegedly rewarding police who aligned with its agenda while punishing those who did not. He claimed this created a culture where democratic values were compromised for political gain.
Naidu highlighted various abuses and atrocities during the previous administration, including the alleged misuse of police forces to influence the legislature, judiciary, executive, and media. He detailed instances of harassment, wrongful detention, and criminal cases filed against himself, Pawan Kalyan, and other TDP leaders. He also cited the cases of SC/ST atrocities and the murder of TDP activist Tota Chandraiah.
Naidu emphasized the deterioration of law and order and vowed to reform the police system, improve drug control using new technology, and regulate social media to prevent adverse and damaging posts. He stressed the need to address the negative impacts of such posts, especially those targeting women.
In contrast, Naidu praised his own administration’s record from 2014 to 2019, noting significant reductions in various crimes and improvements in police infrastructure. He pointed to advancements like CCTV cameras, body-worn cameras, and automated systems that enhanced crime detection and police accountability.
Naidu responded positively to Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan's suggestion for a more extended discussion on law and order in the next Assembly session, aiming to enhance the transparency and effectiveness of the police department.
