VIJAYAWADA: APCC Chief YS Sharmila has strongly criticized her brother and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for skipping Assembly sessions, citing the lack of Leader of Opposition (LoP) status as his reason. Sharmila called for Jagan and his party MLAs to resign from their positions if they continue to avoid attending the Assembly.
In a statement on X, Sharmila condemned Jagan's refusal to attend the Assembly, describing it as an act of cowardice, incompetence, and arrogance. “It is disgraceful that Jagan is using the denial of LoP status as an excuse for not attending the Assembly. Avoiding the Assembly is an insult to the people who elected you,” she said.
Sharmila emphasized that being an MLA means representing the people in the legislature, not merely engaging with the media. “Did you win your seat to be the people's voice in the legislature, or to simply showcase your achievements in media interactions?” she asked.
She also criticized the ruling party for releasing white papers accusing the previous YSRC regime of corruption and mismanagement. “People elected you as an MLA to address issues in the Assembly, not to remain in your palace and hold media meetings. It is your duty to respond to criticisms of your past administration and to hold the current government accountable on the Assembly floor. If you cannot fulfill these responsibilities, you do not deserve the LoP status or even the position of MLA,” Sharmila asserted, calling for Jagan’s resignation.
