VIJAYAWADA:Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha has questioned the necessity of allocating a security detail of 980 police personnel for former Chief Minister and YSRC president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Anitha argued that the current security measures are adequate and suggested that Jagan's petitions in the High Court—requesting Leader of Opposition (LoP) status and increased security—are attempts to undermine the State government’s image. She noted that the number of police personnel Jagan has requested is comparable to the number of voters in a Gram Panchayat. While the State government continues to provide Z plus security to Jagan as a former Chief Minister, maintaining the same level of security as during his tenure is not feasible, she explained.
At a media briefing at the Mangalagiri party office, Anitha pointed out that Jagan himself had previously asserted in the Assembly that the then-opposition leader, N. Chandrababu Naidu, would lose his status if a few TDP MLAs were removed from the party. “Now, how can Jagan claim the LoP status without meeting the constitutional requirements?” she asked.
