HYDERABAD: Amazon Inc. is set to expand its data center operations and workforce in Hyderabad. During a recent visit to the US, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu engaged in discussions with Amazon's senior leadership team, led by Kerry Person, Vice President of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Data Centre Planning and Delivery.
Amazon, which already has a significant presence in Telangana—including its largest corporate building globally located in Hyderabad—initiated its dedicated air cargo network, 'Amazon Air,' in the city in 2023.
Hyderabad is a strategic location for AWS, with three major data centers currently in operation. Amazon has outlined plans for further expansion, including new hyper-scale data centers in the city, which are essential for supporting AI/ML services.
Sridhar Babu described the talks with Amazon as highly positive and productive.
"We have assured Amazon of our full support and the best incentives to facilitate their goals in Hyderabad. We anticipate a substantial expansion of their operations in our state," said the IT and Industries Minister.
AWS Vice President Kerry Person expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, stating, "We are excited to further develop our cloud infrastructure in Hyderabad as a key part of AWS's strategy in India. The new AWS Region in Hyderabad will play a pivotal role in enhancing cloud services, including AI, and supporting Telangana’s digital ambitions. Our commitment is to help drive India towards its trillion-dollar digital economy goal."
The expansion of AWS in Telangana will bolster the state’s position as a major hub for cloud and data center infrastructure in India. Amazon offers a broad range of cloud services, including computing, storage, databases, networking, machine learning, analytics, and artificial intelligence.
