Ratan Tata’s Will: A Life of Giving

Ratan Tata, one of India's most respected business leaders, passed away on October 9, 2024, at the age of 86. In his will, he donated a large part of his wealth, nearly ₹10,000 crores, to help poor people through an NGO. His total wealth was around ₹3,800 crores, including Tata Sons shares and other properties.

Special Gifts for His Loyal Staff & Pet Dog

Ratan Tata gave ₹1 crore and cleared a ₹51 lakh loan for his personal cook, Rajan Shah. He also asked him to take care of his pet dog Tito, and provided ₹12 lakhs for its care. His driver, Raju Leon, received ₹1.5 lakhs and his ₹18 lakh loan was cancelled. Other house staff like car cleaners and helpers were given ₹15 lakhs depending on their service years.

He also donated his branded clothes like Docks, Polo, Brooks Brothers suits, and Hermes ties to NGOs for the needy. His close friend Shantanu Naidu had a ₹1 crore education loan waived. Even his neighbor Jake Mallet got a ₹23.7 lakh loan cancelled. Trustees who helped in executing his will received ₹5 lakhs each. His half-sisters Shirin and Diana received one-third of his wealth.
