The Governor has issued the Andhra Pradesh Appropriation Ordinance for a Rs 1.29 lakh crore vote on account

VIJAYAWADA: On Wednesday, Governor S Abdul Nazeer promulgated the Andhra Pradesh Appropriation (Vote-on-Account No.2) Ordinance, 2024. This ordinance authorizes an expenditure of Rs 1.29 lakh crore for the four-month period from August 1 to November 30, covering grants for 40 government departments.
While the ordinance is set to cover the state’s financial needs until the end of November, sources indicate that the full budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 will be presented to the Legislative Assembly in September. This marks the second ordinance issued this financial year. Earlier, a similar ordinance was enacted to manage expenditures for the first four months of the fiscal year (April 1, 2024, to July 31, 2024), ahead of the elections.
The previous ordinance provided for budget estimates and was approved by the State Legislature in February to cover initial expenditures. The legislature was expected to approve the full budget before July 31, 2024, allowing the government to access funds from the Consolidated Fund of the State starting August 1, 2024.
However, the new administration requested additional time to finalize the full budget due to ongoing reviews of liabilities and resources in coordination with the revenue department. To ensure uninterrupted funding for state operations, the governor's recent ordinance has been issued to facilitate the necessary financial provisions for the upcoming months.
