Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who arrived in Delhi on Sunday, is scheduled to meet with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to extend an invitation to a forthcoming public meeting in Warangal. The meeting aims to celebrate the successful implementation of the crop loan waiver scheme in Telangana. The state Congress plans to host this event in the third week of August.
The ruling party intends to highlight the fulfillment of the crop loan waiver pledge made by Rahul Gandhi nearly two years ago as a significant achievement. At the Farmers’ Declaration rally in Warangal, Rahul Gandhi had committed to implementing the loan waiver if Congress came to power in Telangana. Within seven months of assuming office, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy managed to mobilize approximately Rs 32,000 crore to fulfill this promise, despite financial challenges.
The government has already allocated Rs 6,000 crore in the initial phase to waive crop loans up to Rs 1 lakh per farmer. The next phase aims to extend the waiver to loans up to Rs 2 lakh, with a target to complete the scheme by August 15.
In addition to the loan waiver, the Congress government has been proactive in delivering on other pre-election promises, including the six guarantees. These include free transportation for women, subsidized gas cylinders at Rs 500, free electricity up to 200 units for the economically disadvantaged, and an enhanced Aarogyasri health insurance coverage of Rs 10 lakh.
