In New York, as of October 3rd, preparations are underway for the unveiling of a 19-foot statue of B.R. Ambedkar, titled the 'Statue of Equality.' This statue, the largest of its kind outside India, is scheduled to be revealed in the state of Maryland on October 14th, commemorating the life and influence of the renowned leader and principal architect of the Indian Constitution.
Situated on 13 acres of land in Accokeek city, a mere 21 miles from the White House, the statue replicates the world's largest 125-feet Ambedkar statue, recently unveiled in Hyderabad, as confirmed by the organizers.
The Ambedkar International Center (AIC) states that this statue holds the distinction of being the 'largest Ambedkar statue outside India.' It forms a crucial part of the organization's inaugural Ambedkar Memorial project in the United States.
"Join us in marking this profound occasion as we pay tribute to Dr. Ambedkar's tireless efforts towards equality, human rights, and empowerment," mentioned AIC in an official statement.
"Witness the magnificent unveiling of this statue, a significant symbol of his enduring impact, and express reverence for the great leader who devoted his life to combatting injustice."
The event, commencing at 10 a.m., will feature cultural performances following the unveiling ceremony.
Renowned artist and sculptor Ram Sutar, a recipient of the Padma Shri award, is the mastermind behind this creation. Sutar is responsible for crafting numerous monumental sculptures over the last six decades, with more than 90 such creations placed in various locations worldwide, including India, the United States, France, Argentina, Italy, Russia, and Malaysia.
