Thanks to its alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Janasena, the BJP has regained its influence in Andhra Pradesh. After being reduced to zero MLAs and MPs in 2019, the saffron party secured 6 MLAs and 3 MPs in the recent elections. The alliance with TDP played a crucial role in this resurgence, not only in AP but also strengthening the NDA at the national level, where it secured 21 MP seats in AP alone.
However, there's a counter-argument from CPI's Narayana, who criticized Chandrababu Naidu for reintroducing the BJP to AP. Narayana pointed out that BJP is leveraging alliances with leaders like Chandrababu and Nitish Kumar to bolster its national standing, rather than achieving success independently. He expressed concern over potential alliances with TDP, stating that left parties are unprepared for such scenarios. Narayana emphasized that Chandrababu's actions have brought back what he calls the "dangerous" BJP to AP for the second time, a party that he believes disrupts the peace of its allies.
The leftist factions are clearly discontented with Chandrababu's role in facilitating BJP's resurgence both in AP, where TDP won 161 out of 175 MLA seats, and nationally, where the NDA's 21 MP seats from AP were crucial for its parliamentary strength. The question remains whether BJP will acknowledge Naidu's contributions and support his developmental vision for AP, considering the strategic alliance that secured such significant electoral gains.
