NSP Crest Gates to Open Today Residents Advised to Exercise Caution

Nalgonda: District Collector Issues Alert as NSP Crest Gates to Open Today
On Sunday, District Collector C. Narayana Reddy issued a warning to residents living in the downstream areas of the Nagarjunasagar Project (NSP). He advised them to remain vigilant as the radial crest gates will be opened at 8 am on Monday. Residents are urged to avoid bathing, swimming, or allowing livestock near the river.
The collector reported ongoing heavy flooding from the Srisailam project into the NSP, with the reservoir nearing its full capacity. The maximum capacity of the reservoir is 590 feet, and the water level has currently reached 576.16 feet. To manage this situation, approximately two lakh cusecs of water will be released downstream through the crest gates at 8 am.
He emphasized that the water release will account for the flood conditions from the Srisailam Dam and instructed officials to implement measures to prevent any loss of life or property. This will be the first time the crest gates are being opened in two years.
