Cyber fraudsters are exploiting photos and videos posted on social media to harass their victims.
In Guntur, Bapatla SP Vakul Jindal has issued a cautionary message urging social media users to be vigilant against cyberstalking. Highlighting the severity of this online threat, he emphasized that cyberstalkers use electronic means to harass, stalk, and invade privacy, often exploiting photos and videos shared on social media platforms.
Jindal specifically noted that women are frequently targeted by these cyber fraudsters. To mitigate the risk of such cyber crimes, he advised users to implement strict privacy settings across all their social media accounts, including platforms like Instagram and Facebook. Additionally, he stressed the importance of verifying the authenticity of friend requests and recommended disabling GPS settings while using social media to prevent tracking by malicious software.
Further preventive measures suggested by Jindal include refraining from sharing personal information, photos, or current locations on social media. He cautioned against responding to requests for phone numbers or personal details from unknown individuals.
In case of encountering such cyber threats, Jindal urged the public to promptly report incidents to local police stations or contact the cyber helpline at 1930. He also encouraged victims to file complaints through the national cybercrime reporting portal for swift action and support from law enforcement agencies.
