In a written reply to Parliament, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is charging a convenience fee from passengers who book online reserved e-tickets through the e-ticketing platform. He said Rs 1,949.98 crore was collected from 2019-20 to December 2022 when railway travel tickets including e-tickets were cancelled. He also said that in the financial year 2021-22, Rs.694.08 crores have been received due to the cancellation of e-tickets at the counter. He said that in the current financial year (2022-23) till December 2022, Rs.604.40 crore has been received through cancellation of tickets.

Also, if a train ticket is booked through net banking or debit card or credit card for traveling in air-conditioned class and it is canceled later, a charge of Rs.30 per ticket will be charged, he said. He said that if the ticket booked through UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is cancelled, Rs. 20 will be charged for each ticket. If you want to cancel a ticket taken for traveling in non-AC classes, if you book it through net banking or debit card or credit card, you will be charged at the rate of Rs.15 per ticket, he said. They said that they are charging Rs.10 per ticket to cancel the ticket booked through UPA.
