Hyderabad has begun celebrating the 10-day Vinayaka Chaturthi on Friday with pomp and devotion.
The day started with homams and poojas at several temples across the city. The vibrant and colourful Ganesh pandals set up by apartments, residential colonies and organisations also opened their doors for the devotees. As the celebrations were muted last year, hundreds of devotees were seen at the temples and pandals early in the morning. Children, who have not been able to celebrate most festivals during the last one year, were seen taking part in the celebrations enthusiastically.
Markets were abuzz as several people stepped out early in the morning for last minute pooja shopping, buying beautiful Ganesha idols, flowers, fruits and sweets that are traditionally offered to the lord.
The festivities will go on for the next ten days in the city.
