In Banaganapalle constituency, on the seventh day of this month, thousands of fish died in the Kunduna river and washed ashore in heaps. District Collector Manazir Jilani responded to the news broadcast on TV9 about the death of fish and formed a committee with senior officials of various departments.
The committee consists of Pollution Control Environment Engineer, Nandyala Municipal Commissioner, Deputy Inspector of Factories, Joint Director of Fisheries, Don RDO, Banaganapalli SRBC EE and KC Canal EE. All of them conducted a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The committee members toured extensively at the field level, took the views of the villagers, collected water samples and sent them to labs for testing.
The committee concluded that the fish in the villages of Kovelakuntla, Bhimunipadu and Kristipadu have died due to lack of oxygen due to the large amount of industrial waste in the Kundu river. It was confirmed that the dead fish floated up from Nandyala Kundunadi bridge and hit the stream and floated in Banaganapalle Kundunadi.

The committee concluded that the fishes died due to the sewage of Agro Industries, Nandigrains Derivatives, Nandi Milk Dairy Industries and Nandyala town sewage meeting in the Kunduna river. Based on the reports of the committee, District Collector Manazir Jilani has sent reports to the Central Pollution Control Board for final action against the companies. From Kundu, water is being supplied to 15 villages in the mandal for cattle and essential needs. People are worried about this.

కుందూ నదిలో పరిశ్రమల వ్యర్థాలు పెద్దఎత్తున చేరడంతో కోవెలకుంట్ల, భీమునిపాడు, క్రిస్టిపాడు గ్రామాల్లో ఆక్సిజన్ అందక చేపలు మృతి చెందినట్లు కమిటీ నిర్ధారించింది. చనిపోయిన చేపలు నంద్యాల కుందూనది వంతెనపై నుంచి పైకి వచ్చి వాగును ఢీకొని బనగానపల్లె కుందూనదిలో తేలినట్లు నిర్ధారించారు.
నంద్యాల శివారులో ఉన్న ఎస్.పి.వై. ఆగ్రో ఇండస్ట్రీస్, నందిగ్రేన్స్ డెరివేటివ్స్, నంది మిల్క్ డెయిరీ ఇండస్ట్రీస్, నంద్యాల పట్టణంలోని మురుగునీరు కుందూనదిలో కలవడం వల్లే చేపలు చనిపోయాయని కమిటీ నిర్ధారించింది. కమిటీ నివేదికల ఆధారంగా కంపెనీలపై తుది చర్య కోసం జిల్లా కలెక్టర్ మనజీర్ జిలానీ కేంద్ర కాలుష్య నియంత్రణ మండలికి నివేదికలు పంపారు. కుందూ నుంచి మండలంలోని 15 గ్రామాలకు పశువులకు, నిత్యావసరాలకు నీరు సరఫరా అవుతోంది. దీంతో ప్రజలు ఆందోళన చెందుతున్నారు.
