Chandrababu Naidu emphasizes proactive flood mitigation planning in Godavari districts to minimize losses

In response to heavy rains impacting Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has taken proactive measures to protect lives and property. During a video conference on Friday with district Collectors and Superintendents of Police from the most affected areas, Naidu directed officials to prioritize public safety based on forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Naidu emphasized the importance of comprehensive planning to minimize human casualties and property damage caused by floods. He highlighted that the state has experienced 244 mm of rainfall this year, a significant increase from the normal 185 mm, with some regions receiving up to 13 cm of rainfall.
The Chief Minister stressed continuous monitoring of tank bunds and river flow, noting that the integrity of Godavari River bunds had been compromised due to illegal sand and clay mining during the previous administration. He urged officials to demonstrate proactive management in this critical situation, relying on IMD alerts to anticipate conditions and mitigate potential damage.
Naidu also criticized the previous administration, alleging neglect of disaster management systems, and called for their immediate activation to effectively respond to the current crisis.
