NELLORE: The Parents Association of Andhra Pradesh (PAAP) has accused the Intermediate Board of showing favoritism towards private colleges at the expense of government institutions.
In a letter to Education Minister Nara Lokesh, PAAP President Narahari Shikaram highlighted the urgent need to address staffing shortages in government colleges and called for an investigation into private institutions for numerous alleged irregularities.
The letter criticized the Intermediate Board for not effectively monitoring private colleges, which are reportedly failing to meet guidelines on infrastructure, amenities, course offerings, and location. The PAAP has demanded government action to rectify these issues.
The letter also pointed out that many private colleges lack essential facilities like libraries and science labs and do not adhere to the Board’s textbook and uniform policies, which increases the financial burden on parents.
The PAAP highlighted a significant shortage of regular lecturers in government colleges, noting that only 900 out of the required 6,000 positions are filled. This shortage, they argue, could adversely affect the education of economically disadvantaged students.
The PAAP has urged the government to implement regulations consistently across all colleges and to consider establishing additional government institutions.
