Hyderabads New Master Plan to Include Rs 17212 Crore Sewer Network Covering 7034 Km

Hyderabad: The state government has proposed a sewer network project for Greater Hyderabad, estimated to cost Rs 17,212.69 crore under the Comprehensive Sewerage Master Plan (CSMP).
This extensive project will cover the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), its peripheral areas, parts of the core city, and urban local bodies (ULBs) within the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The total length of the proposed sewer network is 7,034 km, comprising 2,656 km in the peripheral circles and core city and 4,378 km in ULBs located inside the ORR.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR), prepared by Mumbai-based Shah Technical Consultants, includes distinct proposals for the peripheral areas and the core city, as well as the ULBs within ORR limits. Given that the core city already has a sewerage system, the primary focus will be on the peripheral circles, totaling 2,231 km in length.
In the peripheral areas, Package-I will involve constructing a sewer network of 765.85 km covering Uppal, Kapra, Malkajgiri, Alwal, and Serilingampally circles. Package-II will extend 643.29 km in the Rajendranagar and LB Nagar circles, while Package-III will cover 831.78 km in Kukatpally and Quthbullapur circles.
For the core city, work is currently underway in Zone-3, with proposals in the tendering stage for Zone-2. The government has proposed a sewer network of 81 km in Zone-1, 92 km in Zone-4, 77 km in Zone-5, and 174 km in Zone-6, totaling 424 km.
Officials have noted that there is currently no adequate sewerage network in the ULBs under ORR. “The existing lateral sewers were laid by the previous municipalities, and the entire sewer system needs refurbishment, including new lateral lines, branch sewers, and trunk mains to prevent sewage from flowing into nalas,” they explained.
Additionally, the state government is seeking financial assistance from the Union government to implement the CSMP under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme. Recently, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy submitted the DPR to Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for approval.
