NTR District Collector Srijana No Immediate Flood Threat from Budameru

Facilitation Centers to Expedite Insurance Claims for Flood-Damaged Properties, Says NTR District Collector G. Srijana
In an exclusive interview with K. Kalyan Krishna Kumar, NTR District Collector G. Srijana announced that facilitation centers will be established at the Sub Collector’s Office to streamline insurance claim settlements for properties damaged by recent natural calamities, including floods from the Budameru stream and Krishna River.
Steps to Address Insurance Claims
Under the direction of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, a facilitation center has been set up to expedite insurance claim settlements for both property and vehicle damages. So far, 1,800 claims have been received, with 55 settled. The district expects between 4,000 and 5,000 additional claims in the coming week and is collaborating with insurance companies to process them swiftly.
Current Flood Threat and Measures
There is no immediate flood threat from the Budameru stream at present, as rainfall has been less than initially forecasted. A precautionary alert was issued on Sunday night, advising residents to prepare for possible evacuation to rehabilitation centers if necessary. With reduced rainfall locally and in Telangana, the floodwaters flowing into Budameru have decreased. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have implemented precautionary measures to ensure public safety.
Sanitation Efforts in Affected Areas
Sanitation efforts are underway with about 8,000 workers, both local and from other regions, cleaning streets and homes affected by the floods. While cleaning has started in 26 divisions, six divisions—Ajith Singh Nagar, Vambay Colony, and RR Peta among them—are awaiting receding waters before sanitation work can begin. The cleanup will proceed as conditions allow.
Distribution of Essential Kits
The Civil Supplies Department is handling the distribution of essential commodities. Approximately 150,000 kits have been provided to flood-affected individuals in areas where waters have receded. Distribution continues in these areas, with power and water supplies restored. Enumeration is also underway, focusing on severely affected and marooned areas rather than those impacted only by rainfall.
Status of Other Affected Areas
The situation in other parts of the NTR district has stabilized, and enumeration for property damage is in progress. The primary concern remains the Budameru catchment area, where significant crop damage has occurred. A detailed impact assessment will be conducted, and a comprehensive report will be submitted to the government after consolidating the findings.
