Indian doctoral student killed in shooting incident in US

In a tragic incident in Ohio, a 26-year-old Indian doctoral student, Aaditya Adlakha, was discovered dead inside his car after a shooting incident on the Western Hills Viaduct in Cincinnati. The vehicle, hit multiple times by gunfire earlier in the month, had collided with a wall. The police found Adlakha inside, with at least three bullet holes visible in the driver's side window.

Adlakha was taken to UC Medical Center after the shooting and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries on November 11. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Enrolled in the College of Medicine's Molecular and Developmental Biology Graduate Program at the University of Cincinnati, Adlakha was set to complete his doctorate in 2025. Known for his intelligence and wit, he had a bachelor's degree in zoology from Ramjas College in New Delhi and earned his master's degree in physiology in 2020 from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

Andrew Filak, Dean of the College of Medicine, remembered Adlakha as "exceedingly kind and humorous, intelligent and sharp." Adlakha's research was described as "novel and transformative." The university expressed its condolences, highlighting Adlakha's receipt of a stipend and an award for his research project on ulcerative colitis last year.

The tragic incident adds to concerns about gun violence, with city government figures reporting 305 shooting incidents as of November 15. The university community and authorities mourn the loss of Aaditya Adlakha, emphasizing the need for support and care during this difficult time.
