New Delhi, Jan 31: The Economic Survey, a crucial document outlining the state of the economy for the past fiscal year, will be presented in Parliament by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at 12 p.m. on Friday. This presentation comes one day before the eagerly awaited Union Budget 2025-26.
The Economic Survey will be tabled in the Lok Sabha at 12 p.m. and in the Rajya Sabha at 2 p.m..
The survey, prepared under the supervision of Chief Economic Advisor V. Anantha Nageswaran, provides a detailed analysis of the current economic situation, as well as an outlook for the upcoming fiscal year. It is often seen as a precursor to the Union Budget, offering clues about the direction of future economic policies.
The presentation of the Economic Survey will also mark the beginning of the Budget Session of Parliament, which will continue until April 4. There will be a break from February 14 to March 10 during the session.
The theme of the Economic Survey is particularly important, as it sets the tone for the Union Budget. In 2024, the theme focused on economic resilience, reflecting the government’s priorities.
Before the Union Budget is presented, a Cabinet meeting will be held, chaired by the Prime Minister, to review the budget and seek Cabinet approval.
On Friday, ahead of the Union Budget presentation, President Droupadi Murmu will address a joint session of Parliament at 11 a.m. Following the President’s speech, Finance Minister Sitharaman will present the Economic Survey in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
Sitharaman will also present the Union Budget on February 1, marking her eighth consecutive presentation of the annual budget.
The Budget Session will take place from January 31 to April 4, divided into two phases: the first phase will conclude on February 13, and the second phase will resume on March 10.
