HYDERABAD: The state CID has initiated investigations into 28 private hospitals across Telangana, following allegations of fraudulent activities involving the Chief Minister Relief Fund (CMRF). The hospitals are accused of creating fake bills to embezzle large sums of money from the fund.
On Friday, the CID registered six cases against hospitals in Hyderabad, Khammam, Nalgonda, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Hanamkonda, and Mahabubabad districts. The CMRF assists individuals who cannot afford costly medical treatments or who have lost family members. The CID is examining whether hospital staff collaborated with individuals to forge documents and unjustly benefit from the fund.
The scam, which allegedly occurred several months ago, was uncovered after DSN Murthy, a section officer in the CMRF Revenue department, lodged a complaint with the police. The complaint alleges that fake bills were submitted to the Chief Minister’s Office for CMRF sanction.
Of the 28 suspected hospitals, 10 are in Khammam, 10 in Hyderabad, three in Nalgonda, two in Mahabubabad, and one each in Hanamkonda, Karimnagar, and Peddapalli.
In Hyderabad, the implicated hospitals include Aruna Sree Multi Specialty Hospital (IS Sadan X Road), Sri Krishna Hospital (Saidabad), Janani Hospital (Saidabad), Hiranyaa Hospital (Meerpet), Delta Hospital (Hasthinapuram), Sree Raksha Hospital (BN Reddy Nagar), MMS Hospital (Sagar Ring Road), ADRM Multi Speciality Hospital (Ramanthapur), MMV Indira Multi Speciality Hospital (Kothapet), and Sri Sai Thirumala Hospital (Bairamalguda).
The CID has filed cases under Sections 465, 468, 471, 420 read with 511 of the IPC. Six investigation officers have been appointed, with instructions from the CID DG to submit preliminary reports within two weeks.
