Political Tensions Over Chili Farmers End

The ongoing political debate over chili farmers in Andhra Pradesh has come to an end with a major announcement from the central government. To support chili farmers, the government has introduced the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS), ensuring a minimum support price. This decision is expected to bring relief to farmers and put an end to the war of words between ruling and opposition parties.

Government Announces Minimum Support Price

For the past few weeks, chili farmers have been struggling with low prices in the market. YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy recently visited the Guntur Chili Yard to discuss farmers' concerns, triggering political discussions. In response, opposition leader and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu wrote a letter to the central government, urging support for farmers. Acting on this request, the central government announced a minimum support price (MSP) of ₹11,781 per quintal and promised to procure 2,58,000 metric tons of chili from farmers under the Market Intervention Scheme.

Farmers Express Happiness Over Government Decision

Chili farmers in AP have been protesting due to the lack of fair prices for their produce. Following Jagan’s visit, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu immediately responded by writing to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, requesting government intervention. He also instructed Union Minister Pemmachani Chandrasekhar to discuss the issue with the central government. After a detailed review, the central government agreed to support farmers by purchasing their chili stock. This decision has brought great relief and happiness to chili farmers in Andhra Pradesh, as they now have financial security and better price assurance for their crops.
