The deceased have been identified as Prijith (35) and his wife Risha (26) of Kuthiyathur in Kannur district.

The accident took place while Risha, who was suffering from labor pains, was being taken to the district government hospital in a 2020 model Maruti S-Presso car. A total of six people were traveling in the car at the time of the accident. But when the fire broke out in the vehicle, four people, including the child sitting in the back seat, jumped out. The front of the car was engulfed in flames and the doors could not be opened.

 As a result, Prijit and Risha who were sitting in the front seat got stuck in the car. Locals came running and tried to save those trapped in the car but to no avail. The rescue team who reached the spot controlled the fire and took Prijith and Reesha out. But they were already found dead. Kannur City Police Commissioner Ajith Kumar informed the media that along with the dead, four injured persons have also been shifted to the hospital.

 స్థానికులు పరుగుపరుగున వచ్చి కారులో చిక్కుకున్న వారిని రక్షించేందుకు ప్రయత్నించినా ఫలితం లేకపోయింది. సంఘటనా స్థలానికి చేరుకున్న రెస్క్యూ టీం మంటలను అదుపుచేసి, ప్రిజిత్, రీషాలను బయటకు తీశారు. ఐతే అప్పటికే వారు మృతి చెందినట్లు గుర్తించారు. మృతులతోసహా గాయాలపాలైన నలుగురిని కూడా ఆసుపత్రికి తరలించినట్లు కన్నూర్‌ నగర పోలీస్‌ కమిషనర్‌ అజిత్‌ కుమార్‌ మీడియాకు తెలియజేశారు. సాంకేతిక నిపుణులు పరిశీలించిన తర్వాత అగ్నిప్రమాదానికి గల కారణాలను నిర్ధారించగలమని ఆయన తెలిపారు.
