During the local body elections, the then YSR Congress government allegedly used its authority to heavily influence the outcome in its favor, resulting in a clean sweep of every corporation in the state except Tadipatri.
However, following the landmark 2024 verdict, the political landscape is shifting, and the TDP is poised to wrest control of its first municipal corporation from the YCP's grasp.
The focal point of this shift is the Chittoor municipal corporation, situated in Chandrababu's home district of Chittoor. Mayor S Amuda, Deputy Mayor, and 13 corporators have all defected from the YCP to join the TDP. Consequently, the Chittoor corporation now firmly rests in the TDP's hands, with the new members taking their oaths in the presence of local TDP MLA Gurujala Jagan Mohan.
With the YCP facing challenges, including an existential crisis in the assembly with just 11 MLAs, maintaining control over municipal corporations has become increasingly difficult. It is anticipated that the TDP+ alliance will continue to make gains by potentially sweeping more municipal corporations in the near future.
