What are the YSR Congress Party plans for the Budget Session

After suffering a significant defeat and securing only 11 seats, the YSR Congress Party (YCP) finds itself in a precarious position. Despite former CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's insistence that his party be recognized as the primary opposition in the Assembly, his requests to the Assembly Speaker have yet to receive a response.
With the first Assembly session under the new TDP government just 20 days away, uncertainty surrounds the YCP's status. While Jagan has demanded the status of prime opposition, Assembly affairs in-charge Payyavula Keshav has stated that this designation is not feasible, proposing instead that Jagan be acknowledged solely as the YCP floor leader.
Following this clarification from Payyavula, Jagan wrote a letter to the Assembly Speaker, initiating further discussions on the matter among legal experts. According to these experts, there are no definitive rules mandating the recognition of a major opposition party beyond numerical strength in the Assembly.
Comparisons have been drawn to national parliamentary proceedings in 2014 and 2019, where similar situations arose without major opposition presence impacting governance. Legal observations indicate that even if the YCP were to pursue legal action, the courts might not intervene given past precedents.
As the Assembly budget session approaches, the focus now shifts to how the YCP will define its role in the legislature amidst these circumstances.
