When the people are burdened with soaring tomato prices, the government's promise of providing subsidized tomatoes seems like a distant dream. For the past few weeks, the government has been offering subsidized tomatoes at Vijayawada, priced at 50 rupees per kilogram. However, the scarcity of subsidized tomatoes has frustrated the public.

Due to the availability of subsidized tomatoes in the market, people were queuing up for kilometers from early morning just to purchase them. Within a few hours after the market opens, the subsidized tomatoes are sold out, leaving many disappointed.

This situation prevails in all major farmer markets in Vijayawada. The same scenario continues for almost a month now.
Before this week, the prices of Kheera tomatoes in the farmer's market were around 100 rupees, but now they have increased to 150 rupees. Yesterday, 150 kilograms of Kheera tomatoes were available, but today they are priced at 145 rupees.

 If the price on the farmer's side has increased by 20 rupees in just one day, it indicates a critical situation. Due to the soaring prices in the farmer's market, retail markets are also experiencing a doubled grocery rate for tomatoes. In many markets, there have been instances where tomatoes are not available for weeks. Traders even added a rule that only if they buy other vegetables along with tomatoes, they can purchase them.

Furthermore, they imposed a limit on the number of tomatoes one person can buy, offering 2 kilograms for 50 rupees only. Due to this, people are standing in long queues outside ration shops or queuing up for subsidised tomatoes, paying less for good quality tomatoes near the white water tank. Tomatoes that were removed from the queue line during late hours are being taken home. People are looking at rotten and damaged tomatoes in the markets.

విపరీతంగా పెరుగుతున్న టమాటా ధరలతో ప్రజలపై భారం పడుతుండగా.. సబ్సిడీపై టమాటా అందజేస్తామన్న ప్రభుత్వం వాగ్దానం సుదూర స్వప్నంగా కనిపిస్తోంది. గత కొన్ని వారాలుగా విజయవాడలో ప్రభుత్వం రాయితీపై అందజేస్తున్న టమోటాలు కిలో 50 రూపాయలకే లభిస్తున్నాయి. అయితే రాయితీపై టమాటకు కొరత ఏర్పడడం ప్రజలను నిరాశకు గురిచేస్తోంది.

మార్కెట్‌లో రాయితీతో కూడిన టమోటాలు అందుబాటులోకి రావడంతో ప్రజలు వాటిని కొనుగోలు చేసేందుకు తెల్లవారుజాము నుంచే కిలోమీటర్ల మేర బారులు తీరారు. మార్కెట్‌ ప్రారంభమైన కొద్ది గంటల్లోనే సబ్సిడీపై అందజేస్తున్న టమోటాలు అమ్ముడుపోవడంతో పలువురికి నిరాశే మిగిలింది.

విజయవాడలోని అన్ని ప్రధాన రైతు బజార్లలో ఇదే పరిస్థితి నెలకొంది. దాదాపు నెల రోజులుగా ఇదే పరిస్థితి కొనసాగుతోంది.
ఈ వారం ముందు రైతు బజార్‌లో ఖీరా టమాటా ధరలు వంద రూపాయలు ఉండగా, ప్రస్తుతం 150 రూపాయలకు పెరిగాయి. నిన్న 150 కిలోల ఖీరా టమాటా అందుబాటులో ఉండగా నేడు 145 రూపాయలు పలుకుతోంది.

  ఒక్కరోజులోనే రైతు పక్షాన 20 రూపాయలు పెరిగిందంటే అది క్లిష్ట పరిస్థితిని సూచిస్తోంది. రైతు బజార్‌లో పెరిగిన ధరల కారణంగా రిటైల్ మార్కెట్‌లో కూడా టమాటకు రెట్టింపు ధర పలుకుతోంది. చాలా మార్కెట్లలో వారాల తరబడి టమాట దొరకని సందర్భాలున్నాయి. వ్యాపారులు టమోటాలతో పాటు ఇతర కూరగాయలను కొనుగోలు చేస్తేనే వాటిని కొనుగోలు చేయవచ్చనే నిబంధనను కూడా చేర్చారు.
