Telangana Additional Collector Arrested for Taking Rs 8 Lakh Bribe

HYDERABAD: On Tuesday, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Rangareddy district Additional Collector M.V. Bhoopal Reddy under Sections 7(A) and 7(B) of the Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly accepting an Rs 8 lakh bribe late on Monday. The arrest was followed by raids at Bhoopal Reddy’s residence.
ACB officials reported that Bhoopal Reddy allegedly demanded the bribe from Jakkidi Muthyam Reddy, a resident of Gurramguda village in Balapur mandal, to facilitate the removal of 14 guntas of land from the prohibited list on the Dharani portal. The transaction involved Y. Madan Mohan Reddy, a senior assistant, who helped facilitate the bribe.
Madan Mohan was apprehended around 8:45 pm on Monday at Gurramguda X Road while collecting the bribe. He admitted that the bribe was intended for Bhoopal Reddy, a fact later confirmed through a phone call.
After receiving instructions, Bhoopal Reddy met Madan Mohan at Peddamberpet near the ORR at around 10:41 pm and collected the cash. The ACB later recovered the money from a bag in Bhoopal Reddy’s car.
The ACB has completed the raids at Bhoopal Reddy’s residence, though no Disproportionate Assets (DA) case has been registered against him yet. Both Bhoopal Reddy and Madan Mohan have been presented before the special judge for ACB cases at Nampally and are now in judicial remand.
