Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai is expected to testify in the Epic Games vs. Google case in a US court next week. Epic Games, the developer of Fortnite, plans to call Pichai as a witness on Tuesday in its lawsuit, alleging that Google Play constitutes an unlawful monopoly, as reported by The Verge.
Google has requested the use of a podium in the courtroom on Tuesday, implying that Pichai might indeed appear to testify. The lawsuit was initiated after Google removed Fortnite from the Play store. Epic argues that Google's control over its Google Play Store for Android smartphones violates both state and federal antitrust laws.
In a separate development, Google offered a $147 million deal to Epic Games to host Fortnite on the Google Play store, according to testimony from Purnima Kochikar, Vice President of Play Partnerships at Google. The deal was approved and presented to Epic but was not accepted.
The trial, which began earlier this week, sees Google defending its 30 percent cut on transactions for apps via its Play store.
