HYDERABAD: Following an inquiry ordered by Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty, six officers from the Shadnagar police station, including Detective Inspector Ramireddy, have been suspended for alleged custodial torture of a Dalit woman.
The victim claimed that she and her husband were detained by the Shadnagar police under suspicion of theft. She reported that the officers stripped her, beat her with sticks, and even tried to pour candle wax on her during a five-hour ordeal. Her husband was reportedly beaten and sent away before she was subjected to further abuse.
Despite her pleas and claims of a broken leg, the victim alleged that the officers continued their assault, advising her to walk to avoid permanent injury.
An official inquiry into the incident is underway, and Ramireddy has been reassigned to the Cyberabad headquarters pending the investigation. The CPI has called for the officers to be charged under the SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
