Hyderabad: On Tuesday, the Jana Sena Party (JSP), led by actor-politician Pawan Kalyan, revealed its candidates for eight seats in the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections, scheduled for November 30. The JSP, an ally of the BJP, has nominated candidates for Kukatpally, Tandur, Kodad, Nagarkurnool, Khammam, Kothagudem, Wyra (ST), and Ashwaraopet (ST).
Notably, four of these seats are located in the undivided Khammam district. It remains uncertain whether the JSP will nominate more candidates. This announcement came shortly after Pawan Kalyan shared a stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a BJP public gathering in Hyderabad.
The BJP has already declared candidates for 100 out of the 119 Assembly constituencies in the state. With the JSP naming candidates for eight seats, 11 seats are still up for grabs. The BJP may consider leaving another 2-3 seats for the JSP.
Initially, Pawan Kalyan's party had plans to field candidates in 32 constituencies. Their leaders were interested in contesting in several segments in and around Hyderabad, which have a significant number of migrant voters from Andhra Pradesh. When BJP leaders initially approached Pawan Kalyan and asked for his support in campaigning for their candidates, he expressed that he was under pressure from his party members in Telangana to contest at least 30 seats. Following discussions between Pawan Kalyan and state BJP leaders, they decided to form an electoral alliance. However, the JSP has significantly reduced the number of seats, which may not even be half of their original intent.
