Over 100 killed in fire at wedding hall in Iraq

On September 27th in Baghdad, a tragic incident unfolded as a fire engulfed a wedding hall in the town of al-Hamdaniya, situated in Iraq's northern province of Nineveh. According to the Iraqi Ministry of Health, the fire resulted in the loss of over 100 lives, leaving more than 150 individuals injured. The hall's construction, made of highly flammable materials, exacerbated the situation, reported the official Iraqi News Agency (INA), citing the Iraqi Civil Defence.

Preliminary information suggested that the fire ignited due to fireworks within the premises. Additionally, a significant portion of the building collapsed due to the intense blaze, as per INA. An investigation into the incident has been initiated, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
