New Appeal Submitted in the Gyanvapi Mosque Case in Varanasi

In Varanasi on September 26, Shailendra Kumar Pathak Vyas, the head priest of Acharya Ved Vyas Peeth temple, has initiated legal action by filing a lawsuit in the court of Civil Judge senior division. The suit seeks permission for the worship of Shringar Gauri and various visible and invisible deities located in the cellar of the Gyanvapi mosque. Additionally, it requests the appointment of the District Magistrate or another suitable individual as the receiver of the cellar situated on the southern side of the building.

Shortly after Vyas's lawyer, Subhash Nandan Chaturvedi, filed the suit, another lawyer named Vishnu Shankar Jain submitted an application to the court of the district judge. This application urged for the transfer of the suit to his court, citing that it would be appropriate in the interest of justice.

Chaturvedi informed that the district judge has scheduled the next hearing for Tuesday, September 26. The lawsuit names the Anjuman Intejamia Masjid Committee, the Gyanvapi mosque management committee, as the defendant. Vyas, in his suit, mentioned that the worship of deities had historically taken place within the cellar on the southern side of the building until 1993. However, his ancestor and priest, Vyasji, were later prohibited from entering the barricaded area, leading to the discontinuation of rituals and ceremonies in the cellar since then.
