Mumbai Court Issues Non-Bailable Arrest Warrant Against Ram Gopal Varma

Warrant Issued Against Ram Gopal Varma in Cheque Bounce Case

A Mumbai court has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against famous filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma in a cheque bounce case. The court took this decision after rejecting Varma’s request to overturn a jail sentence previously given by a judicial court.

Case Background and Court Verdict

The case dates back to 2018 when a company filed a complaint against Ram Gopal Varma’s firm, alleging that a cheque issued by him had bounced. On January 21, 2024, the Judicial Magistrate (First Class) at Andheri, Y.P. Pujari, found him guilty under the Negotiable Instruments Act. As a result, the court sentenced him to three months in jail and ordered him to pay ₹3,72,219 to the complainant within three months.

Court Rejects Appeal, Issues Warrant

Varma later challenged this verdict in the Sessions Court, but on March 4, 2024, the court dismissed his appeal and issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him. The judge also refused to cancel the jail sentence. However, the court stated that Varma could still appear before the court and apply for bail if he wished.
