Mohanlal: I’m Just Learning, Let Me Become a Good Actor

Mohanlal: "I'm Still Learning, Let Me Become a Good Actor"

New Delhi, March 27 – Widely regarded as one of the most influential actors in Indian cinema, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has redefined the film industry with his versatile performances. With a career spanning over four decades and more than 400 films, he has delivered countless iconic performances. Yet, despite his legendary status, Mohanlal humbly says that he is still learning and hopes to become a “good actor.”

Mohanlal made his acting debut at the age of 18 with the 1978 Malayalam film Thiranottam. However, due to censorship issues, its release was delayed for 25 years. His first official screen appearance was in the 1980 film Manjil Virinja Pookkal, where he played the antagonist.

When asked about being labeled a “star,” Mohanlal responded, "I'm just learning. This is a process. Let me become a good actor, then I will give you a proper answer."

Throughout his illustrious career, Mohanlal has been honored with numerous prestigious awards, including the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan in 2019. In 2009, he became the first Indian actor to be awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army.

When asked if he ever faced self-doubt despite his immense recognition, Mohanlal shared, "This is a part of our profession. If you are the best, you will receive awards. But it's not just about the actor – it's about the director, the script, and the entire team. They shape us. The credit belongs to them, not just the actor."

Mohanlal’s latest project is L2: Empuraan, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer. Like its predecessor, the film blends politics, action, suspense, thriller, and mystery.

When asked if L2: Empuraan has the perfect formula for a blockbuster, the five-time National Film Award winner explained, "Success depends on how you structure the sequences, place the songs, and build the emotions. It's not a secret formula, but getting everything right is a challenge. Lucifer was a well-crafted film with a strong script and brilliant execution by the director."

Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, L2: Empuraan is set to release in theaters on March 27.

Speaking about the film’s release, Mohanlal expressed confidence: "We have put in our best efforts and created something beautiful. We have done full justice to the film, and now we present it to the audience. We are happy and at peace, knowing that we gave it our all. If it becomes a success, that's great! If not, we have still done our job with honesty."

Apart from his acting career, Mohanlal was also the Kerala State Wrestling Champion in 1977 and 1978, a testament to his dedication and discipline. Even today, he believes that continuous learning and hard work are the keys to success.
