However, after this, in the months of June and July, the number of cases related to this variant remained low. Only the XBB.1.16 and XBB.2.3 variants were identified in the state during the past two months.

According to the State Health Department, in August, the number of COVID-19 cases has increased. Since the second week of July, active cases of COVID-19 in the state had reached around 70. However, on August 6th, the number rose to 115. Today, on Monday, the total number of active COVID-19 cases stands at 109. Experts believe that the increase in cases is due to the Omicron EG.5.1 variant. Prior to this, this EG.5.1 variant had caused an outbreak in England. Due to this variation, the number of COVID-19 cases in England increased rapidly.

New COVID-19 Symptoms: Experts have identified symptoms of the new variant. The unique mutations in the Omicron variant have resulted in new symptoms. Medical professionals suggest that if these symptoms are recognized early, patients should immediately consult doctors. The new variant's symptoms include severe nasal congestion, pronounced head pressure, frequent sneezing, and more severe body pains.

The Omicron variant EG.5.1 has been identified in many parts of the country. Medical professionals are closely monitoring patients infected with this new variant in hospitals. Currently, Mumbai has 43 active COVID-19 patients. Following that, Pune has 34 and Thane has 25 active patients. In Raigad, Sangli, Solapur, Satar, and Palghar, one active patient each has been identified.
