Harmanpreet Kaur and Her Team Gear Up for World Cup with Further Learnings

CHENNAI: The ongoing multi-format contest between India and South Africa began with the ODI series favoring the hosts, who put up strong performances in Bengaluru, though conclusions were tentative with the ODI World Cup still a year away and India already qualified as hosts.
The Test match in Chennai lacked broader context, but the T20I series, which started on July 5, held crucial significance for both squads, providing a final opportunity to refine strategies in conditions akin to those expected in Bangladesh.
India clinched the series with a commanding 10-wicket victory, leveling it 1-1 after the second match was abandoned midway.
In the first T20I, India stuck with their tried and tested XI from the final ODI. Opting to bowl first, they struggled with the ball, conceding runs generously, barring a standout performance from Pooja Vastrakar. The team faced challenges against Tazmin Brits' resurgence and Marizane Kapp's settled batting at number three. Fielding lapses were a major concern, costing wickets and offering reprieves to opposition batters multiple times.
A highlight for India was Jemimah Rodrigues' return in T20Is. Batting at number five, Rodrigues, returning from injury, steadied the innings with a brisk half-century, showcasing power and astute batting despite India falling short in the final over.
India made changes in the second T20I but struggled again with the ball. Despite Deepti Sharma's standout performance, other bowlers failed to make an impact as South Africa posted a challenging 177.
The third T20I was a turnaround for India. Opting to bowl first again, they restricted South Africa below 100 with disciplined bowling from Arundhati Reddy, Shreyanka Patil, and Pooja Vastrakar. Chasing the modest target, India's openers sealed victory comfortably with all wickets intact.
As India prepares for the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, these matches have provided crucial insights. Questions remain before the World Cup, but India appears poised to defend their Asia Cup title and potentially secure their first major trophy.
