Centre Kazipet Will Have a Manufacturing Unit Not a Coach Factory

HYDERABAD: The long-standing demand for a railway coach factory in Kazipet appears unlikely to be fulfilled. Despite being stipulated by the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act (APRA) and multiple requests from the state government, the Union government remains hesitant to establish the facility.
On Wednesday, the Centre indirectly confirmed that there are no current plans to build a railway coach factory in Kazipet.
In response to a question from Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy in the Lok Sabha, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw explained: “Rail coach factories are established based on the railway's overall rolling stock requirements. Currently, the existing production units and those already planned are adequate to meet the railway’s needs for the foreseeable future.”
Additionally, in reply to a question from BJP MP M. Raghunandan Rao, the railway minister reported that 20 projects worth Rs 32,946 crore, covering 2,298 km, are in various stages of development across Telangana as of April 1, 2024.
